Boherbue Féile B Football Champions 2009

The Road to Victory:

15th March 2009 Boherbue V Russell Rovers in Shanagarry:
Boherbue 06-16 Russell Rovers 02-04
On a very blustery day and we won the toss and played with the wind in the first half, we got a great start and were well ahead at half time.
We played very well, lovely passages of football, they were not all that bad but were predominantly a hurling club. Could have been much closer to us if they had as much interest in football as hurling.

29th March 2009 Boherbue V Carrigaline in Carrigaline
Boherbue 02-09 Carrigaline 01-11
We made it very difficult for ourselves, a great start and were leading by 6 points at half time. But found it increasingly difficult to function as the second half wore on.
We were lucky to hang on in the end.

5th April 2009 Boherbue V Youghal in Boherbue
Our first home fixture in the Féile in 3 Years.
Boherbue 03-11 Youghal 01-04

Again won the toss and played with the aid of a strong wind which helped us to a very commanding half time lead which broke the hearts of our visitors. A very good all-round display, we were much too strong for them in the important areas. Half back line, midfield and half forward line were excellent.
A couple of fringe players pushing for a places.

12th April 2009 Boherbue V Castlelyons in Mallow
Quarter Final.
Boherbue 04-13 Castlelyons 02-05

We raced into a 2-05 to no score lead. They had a very small and fast corner forward who caused our back line a lot of problems. This along with Denis O’Sullivan getting sick gave us something to think about. We introduced Daniel Moynihan as a replacement for Denis, and he did very well for one so young. We had to a lot of rejigging, but we managed to plug the holes.
Castlelyons were strong around the field but very reliant on a very fast mid field, but Kevin and Billy were on their games and didn’t give their opposition a look in. We had a very commanding lead at half time and started the 2nd half with 2 more points. The Castlelyons heads dropped immediately.
We were very comfortable winners in the end.

19th April 2009-04-27 Boherbue V Brian Dillons in Donoghmore
Semi Final
Boherbue 04-13 Brian Dillons 00-03

A very one sided and disappointing contest at this stage of the competition. Called off with 13 minutes left.

April 26th 2009 Boherbue V Carrigtwohill in Pairc Ui Rinn
Final
Boherbue 00-11 Carrigtwohill 00-03

Not as easy as the scorline suggests. It was a very tough physical game, we were the better team, more accomplished around the field, they had a dangerous midfield but we did a good job in keeping the ball away from them.
Daniel Murphy in goals did a very good job but didn’t have much to do due to the way the back line played. Carrigtwohill tried to isolate their big full forward again but Alan O’Sullivan was excellent and played the captains part, he bullied and harassed him, didn’t give him a ball and the full forward was finally taken off with 10 minutes left.
Alan Cremin had another fantastic game, Denis O’Sullivan again played his part until we had to respond to tactical changes by Carrigtwohill and replace Denis with Daniel Moynihan who again had a great game for a player of his age at this grade.
David O’Keeffe suffered after his morning of athletics but he / we got away with it. Daniel Buckley, solid as ever. Timothy Murphy getting better and better. Billy had a great game under very difficult circumstances,
Kevin started and finished very well, he took a terrible knock after 10 minutes and it took him a while to recover but recover he did and kicked an excellent point to put the icing on the cake.
Half forward line of Jimmy Herlihy, Stephen Ahern and Adrian Murphy all played well, particularly Stephen who was being marked by a very aggressive half back. He handled a lot of ball and played very well.
Our full forward line functioned very well, Andrew O’Connor had a great game as did Tadhg Walsh who scored 3 points, each of these could have been goals and he was unlucky with two other half chances. Richard Moynihan didn’t see much of the ball but was ever-present, ready to pick up scraps and capitalise on errors. Kenneth Lawton came on as a sub and did fine as did Eddie Kiely.
